Day two
Visit the mineralogy Museum
The Museum of Mineralogy from Baia Mare is the largest regional museum in Europe, many of the exhibits being considered unique in the world and heritage values.
The Museum of Mineralogy in Baia Mare is renowned for its vast collection of mineral specimens, established and popularized by Victor Gorduza. Born on April 27, 1942, in Cetatea Albă, Gorduza relocated to Baia Mare after World War II. He graduated from the “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj Napoca, specializing in Geography. His passion for mineralogy led him to inventory and curate an extensive collection at the Maramureș County Museum, ultimately becoming the director of the Museum of Mineralogy after its establishment in 1989.
On the second day we headed towards the mineralogy museum of Baiamare. As soon as we arrived we visited the first floor where the larger minerals were stored, after which we went to the 2nd floor to observe the small and medium-sized minerals. We chatted with some boys from those parts and made friends. The museum was really organized in a perfect way and useful for schools to discover minerals they don’t know exist.
