Catholicism has always been a strong tradition in Satu Mare. After the events of 1989, many dedicated individuals have committed themselves to preserving and promoting this faith. Liceul Teologic Romano-Catolic “Hám János” is named after Bishop Hám János (1827-1857), who significantly influenced the current character of both our town and our school through his work.
It is a Catholic high school—the only one of its kind in Satu Mare. It has been operating in its current form since 2004, though it was previously housed in a smaller building a few streets away.
We currently have 23 classes in total, six of which are in a separate building for the technical school. There, students can specialize in fields such as culinary arts (chefs and waiters), mechanics, and electrical work. The theoretical high school has 17 ongoing classes, with 8 specialized tracks starting from ninth grade. These specializations include religion and tourism, computer science, and natural sciences.
Currently, over one hundred staff members work at our school, of which 78 are qualified teachers. We have 806 students enrolled, and many more children are preparing to begin their education at the Hám János kindergarten. There, they receive a solid Christian foundation, learning important values and manners.
