Erasmus solidarity in Action: collecting hygiene products and food for those in need
Within the framework of the Erasmus + programme, our high school ITET Lenoci-Euclide, recently undertook a meaningful humanitarian initiative that brought together students, teachers and families. Our legacy of the CREATE program is also a part that ensures solidarity, benefit and charity.
After having contacted the Mother Superior of the Orphanage Annibale di Francia located in our neighborhood to visit her structure with our students who will bring donations to the residents, we decided to collect items during one week at school.
On Tuesday 3rd of February, two teachers and two students went to the orphanage by car carrying about ten boxes of food and hygiene products.
We met the Mother Superior Suor Lisa who explained the history of the orphanage from its origins to the present day. She detailed the number of children and teenagers she cares for from morning till night. Other sisters pick up the children from school for tutoring and bring them back to their families. There are also other children who live in the facility year-round because they have been placed there by the juvenile court, and most of them are waiting to be adopted.
There are also educators and a psychologist who work there.
She warmly thanked us for our donations and invited us to return to meet the teenagers and perhaps even talk with our high school students. It was a unique joy to listen to the Mother Superior’s story and discover another world so close to our own, so different yet so familiar. A great life lesson for our students and for us.
