Erasmus+ Project at Hám János High School in Satu Mare. Students from Five Countries Present at the Program
On Monday, October 21, 2024, the opening ceremony for the Erasmus+ project CREATE – Care, React, Engage, and Act Tenaciously – for a Healthy World took place at Casa Dăinuirii. This initiative, led by the Hám János Roman Catholic Theological High School in Satu Mare, welcomed not only its own students but also 36 students and 12 teachers from five partner schools, alongside officials from the County School Inspectorate, the Teachers’ House, and the Satu Mare County Council.
The acronym CREATE stands for “Care, React, Engage, and Act Tenaciously for a Healthy World,” uniting six partner countries from different parts of Europe to work as a team, providing students with opportunities to passionately engage with the issues facing modern humanity. For the next two years, the six countries—Czech Republic, Lithuania, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, and Romania—will work together to bring diverse perspectives to the project. These efforts aim to raise students’ awareness of EU values and political and social issues, preparing them to become responsible young adults advocating for a better future.
Following the opening address by the school’s principal, Ádámkó István Csaba, the partner institutions presented themselves, and students from Hám János High School showcased artistic performances. During the ceremony, each school representative was offered the project mascot—a green-clad polar bear symbolizing the climate challenges humanity faces.
The event concluded with a short play in English, which introduced the starting point of an adventure novel that will be collaboratively written by students from the six participating countries. Titled A Hero Across the Continent, the book will reflect the perspectives of students from each country.
The ceremony closed with the presentation of the flags of the participating countries, alongside the flag of the European Union, which co-funds the project’s activities through the Erasmus+ program.
“Incorporating religion, faith, tourism, business, marketing, mathematics, technology, and science into the project, our students create together with collective energy and perseverance, as suggested by the project title. Our goal is to develop key skills while addressing critical issues such as climate change, war, immigration, and poverty.
The meetings, held over five days at various locations in and outside Satu Mare County, include workshops at the institution, hikes, cultural visits to Maramureș, and visits to local and regional producers. To emphasize the humanitarian side of the project, a visit to the Maltese Charity Service in Satu Mare is also planned.
Thus, our students learn to think independently, take on responsibilities, and prepare for social life in a healthy environment. Their development will be supported by non-formal and informal methods, and the experience and knowledge gained will be integrated into the formal curriculum to ensure the project’s sustainability,” the organizers stated.
