In December 2024, students and school communities across six different locations — Czechia, Romania, Lithuania, Spain, Italy and Slovakia,- came together through the CREATE project to spread kindness, generosity, and the true spirit of Christmas. This international charity initiative, centered around preparing and donating shoebox gifts, brought joy to children, seniors, and communities in need while strengthening bonds between students, teachers, and families.

Czechia: Sharing Joy with Children

In Czechia, students participated in a meaningful charity event by filling shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, books, and clothes. These gifts were prepared for children living at the Dětský domov a Základní škola Vizovice. The students embraced the activity with enthusiasm, hoping their contributions would bring happiness and warmth during the holiday season. Their heartfelt wish was simple: to give these children a joyful and memorable Christmas.

Romania: A Community United in Generosity

Between December 9th and 12th, 2024, the “Hám János” Roman Catholic Theological High School organized a large-scale shoebox campaign. Parents, students, and teachers worked together to prepare 40 beautifully wrapped boxes along with many additional donations.

In Carei, 23 personalized gifts were delivered to children cared for by the Piarist Sisters, accompanied by a touching Christmas performance by high school students.
In Nisipeni, 93 students at the local secondary school received gifts, sweets, and surprises, while festive carols filled the air.

This initiative not only brought smiles but also strengthened community ties and highlighted values of compassion, solidarity, and generosity.

Lithuania: Connecting Generations Through Kindness

In Lithuania, students from Kulautuva Basic School focused their efforts on the elderly residents of a local nursery home. They created handmade Christmas gifts and prepared a carol concert to accompany their visit.

Their thoughtful gestures transformed a simple visit into a deeply emotional experience. The songs and gifts brought comfort and joy, reminding everyone involved that Christmas is about giving, sharing time, and showing care. This initiative has now become a cherished tradition that strengthens community connections across generations.

Spain: Supporting Those Affected by Hardship

In Spain, students organized a shoebox campaign dedicated to helping peers affected by the “Dana.” The effort united the entire school community, with students, teachers, and families contributing gifts, food, and essential items.

Students aged 14–15 added a personal touch by writing Christmas cards filled with messages of hope and support. Older students helped with organizing, wrapping, and transporting the boxes. The initiative became a powerful example of teamwork and empathy, demonstrating how collective action can support those facing difficult circumstances.

Italy: A Whole-School Effort

In Italy, the school community joined forces to prepare shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, and personal care items for children in need. Every member of the school contributed — from students and teachers to staff and even family members.

The coordinated effort of preparing, decorating, and delivering the boxes highlighted the importance of collaboration and civic responsibility. It was a true demonstration of charity in action and a meaningful learning experience for everyone involved.

Slovakia: How Much Love Can Fit in a Shoebox

In Slovakia, pupils took part in the “Shoe Box Challenge – How Much Love Can Fit in a Shoebox,” combining a nationwide initiative with the Erasmus+ C.R.E.A.T.E. project.

The students prepared special boxes for seniors, filling them with thoughtful items: sweets, snacks, small gifts for entertainment during long evenings, fragrant items, and even jewelry such as necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Their creativity and attention to detail showed genuine care and empathy.

The initiative also raised awareness about the loneliness many elderly people face, especially during the Christmas season, when visits are rare or sometimes nonexistent. Students reflected on the importance of seniors as a source of wisdom, experience, and inspiration for younger generations.

With the support of school psychologist Laura Jantošovičová, who coordinated the collection, the boxes were gathered over several weeks and delivered to a collection center on Kováčska Street, from where they were distributed to senior homes.

This challenge emphasized that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference, helping to create a more compassionate and connected world.

December 2024 will remain a special memory for all participants. Through small acts of kindness, these communities proved that even the simplest gestures can bring immense joy and hope to others, truly embodying the spirit of Christmas.
